On October 4, 2024, a federal grand jury indicted Ms. Jessica Engle on charges alleging she embezzled from a Native American tribal organization and stole funds from a program receiving federal funds. While employee theft is a common form of theft from companies, there can also be losses and penalties suffered by a company if it is discovered the company wrongfully received federal funds due to the dishonesty of an employee.
According to the charges filed, Ms. Engle served as the chief executive pfficer of the Yurok Telecommunications Corp,, a subsidiary of the Yurok Tribe in San Francisco, California. Ms. Engle allegedly embezzled approximately $579,574 from the Yurok Tribe between July 2021 and May 2022.
